Non-fungible tokens

Currently the Palmaesthetica Collection is available via the purchase of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on Opensea, giving you instant provable ownership of the digital asset (images) purchased. I have selected Opensea to launch my first collection because it is the largest NFT marketplace, and Ethereum to provide the NFTs because it is currently the blockchain most associated with collectable art projects. See “NFT Primer” section below if you would like more information.

Physical Ownership

I appreciate NFTs may not be everyone’s preferred method of ownership. If you are interested in a physical original then please get in touch via Contact.

This would take the form of me providing a unique, high quality art print of a digital original that would then not be available for anyone else to purchase in any other form. However, do note I live in New Zealand, so a signed copy would require appropriate postage and packaging.

NFT Primer

A full introduction to the Web3 world and crypto-currencies is outside the scope of this current post. However, if you are new to the NFT world then you will need to set up a Web3 / crypto wallet as described here. Opensea now support purchasing NFTs using a credit card, which will be the easiest way to buy your first NFT. Alternatively, you will need to load your wallet by purchasing Ethereum crypto-currency via a crypto exchange suitable to your country. Your options are probably best identified by a Google search and reading reviews.

NFTs also have the advantage of an easily accessible resale market and, from my perspective, future resales provide me with “creator royalties”.

It is up to you what you do with your digital artwork, such as display it using a digital picture frame, your TV, a mobile phone, or have printed for your personal use.

The Palmaesthetica NFTs are currently in the “Minting” stage of their release. During this stage the NFT (proof of ownership) is created when purchased, however the image has already been created and uploaded by me. Possibly confusingly, you do not know what the artwork looks like until the end of the minting process, which is at the fixed date specified. At this point all images will be “revealed”. Only images purchased during minting will exist – that is all unpurchased images will not have an NFT and therefore not exist for purchase unless I relist for sale. This approach exists to prevent purchasers from buying the rarest / most unique pieces first. I am not convinced this is the best approach for art collectors and am looking at alternative models for future sales. Please feedback if you would like to share your view!
